Description
Exercise Name: Addition within 1000
Math Missions: 3rd grade (U.S.) Math Mission, 4th grade (U.S.) Math Mission, 5th grade (U.S.) Math Mission, Arithmetic essentials Math Mission
Types of Problems: 1

The Addition within 1000 exercise appears under the 3rd grade (U.S.) Math Mission, 4th grade (U.S.) Math Mission, 5th grade (U.S.) Math Mission and Arithmetic essentials Math Mission. This exercise is the culmination of single digit and two digit addition techniques. The user will add three digit numbers and use carrying often.

Types of Problems[]

There is one type of problem in this exercise:

  1. Add the numbers: This problem asks the user to find the correct answer when two numbers are added together. The numbers used do not exceed 1000, but will often (though not always) use carrying. Interestingly there are only three problems per set instead of the usual seven.

Strategies[]

This exercise is easy to get speed badges using basic arithmetic. It is easy to get accuracy badges if one starts to use the calculator to increase speed on problems where it is appropriate.

  1. There are only three problems per set, so users will need to go faster to avoid the downtime during loading and calculation.
  2. Even if uses choose to use a calculator against the spirit of the practice, they shouldn't rely on it. Some problems (those without carrying) are faster to do without a calculator.

Real-life Applications[]

  1. Addition can be used for adding objects, like adding money totals.
  2. Addition is a major fundamental for higher math levels like algebra, calculus, and more.
